Cross with Juke Box Quarters
When I went to Junior’s juke joint days after a fire that destroyed it, I first went to where the juke box once stood, hoping to find partially melted 45’s or some other artifact of its existence. But the fire had been so hot, all that survived where the 8 quarters from the coin box, buried under ash and cinder. I took them, along with protective corners from the amplifiers and roofing metal, and fashioned a reliquary in the style of an illuminated cross, to preserve these few remaining artifacts from the greatest juke joint in Mississippi blues history.
