Dancers at Junior’s III
Chulahoma, MS 1998
Dancers hit the floor at Junior Kimbrough’s juke joint in Chulahoma, MS as Junior’s son, guitarist David Kimbrough Jr., plays and sings one of his father’s songs. Starting with his house parties in the fifties and then with the opening of his first juke joint in 1991, Junior Kimbrough established himself as the musical and social center for the African American community in Marshall County and the surrounding area. Junior’s son and drummer Kinney Kimbrough explained why locals have always responded to his father’s music: “People just loved the rhythm of his music,” said the younger Kimbrough. “It makes them move.”
