This large tribute and altar to the great fife player Otha Turner is based on a photo I made of him at his farm in 1997 and is made entirely from material gleaned from his picnic grounds that were torn down in the past decade. The piece of tire is from his old wagon, the dirt at the bottom is from inside the barn and the goat head is from an animal barbecued at the annual picnic in 1998. The fife is one that Turner made in the late 1990’s. The jar of dirt is from the cemetery where Turner is buried and the bottles were found on his farm. The branches on top are from the trees seen in the background of the photo.
